The problem is if a BYU player comes in a year before his mission, the clock starts ticking. He has to graduate in two years after his mission, or he causes a strike against the school. That is one of the reasosn why BYU has been encouraging prospects to go on a mission before entering school. It's a lot easier to meet the unfair NCAA requirements that way.
The real story is how unfair those requirements are to a team that by all accounts has a pretty good ACTUAL graduation rate, but has a large proportion of it's student athletes make "no progress toward a degree' for two years in the middle of their 5 year window...
