Nothing he has said is supported by evidence in fact real actual hardcore science refutes many of his talking points. He may rely on old-time bookwork and assumptions about viruses in general. But he rolls out his credentials and then shares preposterous opinions without basic backing of scientific research.

His comment “I don’t work for the govt so I can follow science” smacks of prejudice, pride, assumption, and even avarice.

I’m not a denier or believer of one specific view point. I find it entirely possible the current approach is ineffective or even possibly wrong but science will tell. As of now, I don’t think those I charge are trying to cause harm or are blind to their own limitations. They’re doing the best they can.

I too am trying to make sense of this but as a scientist myself this sort of half truth proclamation is what science has to fight against all the time.

Trust in the good nature of people at the top doing their best with limited information. If this passes quickly all the better. But until we all know what the people in charge know it’s best to give them the benefit of the doubt and avoid purveying this type of stuff.
