The church is a charitable organization. This is their job. They get tax breaks because they are supposed to do stuff like this. They can try to tell you otherwise, but it is what it is. 

They are there for a reason and this is that reason. Use them. 

It's like guilting someone who is hungry for getting food stamps. I've paid over $50,000 in taxes this year. If you are hungry, go get food stamps. It is what it is for. If you don't, them some rich jerk will get another tax break and we have enough of those. 

Go to the church for help. They can help better than family can, especially in a situation like this where we have a real, real problem with parents not being responsible.
