You have to recruite to your needs. And you have to find the best players that best play in your system. Also, you hear of busts all the time. My theory is that those "busts" were actually the kids that just peaked earlier than most other kids so they stood out and got all the hype. I can't tell you how many kids I saw that were the "best" in our league and a couple of years later were average or below average. I'll take a kid that might be average now but has a burning desire to continue to get better and always improve. I've won a few championships coaching teams made up of those kinds of kids. We would take our lumps as we progressed and by the end of the season or the next season we were nearly unstoppable.
I've always told my kids (mine and the ones I coach), everbody catches up, so you have to keep working and getting better.
