You can make a pretty good case that independence isn't great. But that doesn't imply that the alternative is better.

I've yet to find a good argument that shows where joining a G5 would make things better than they are now. Less money, less TV coverage, the G5 stigma, the smaller stadiums (heard that one before?) and the empty conference opponent stadiums amount to nothing better than what we have now.
