I did Penn Station for 6 months.
Didn't feel soul crushed there. Not sure I saw a whole lot more there than I did in the subways.
Worst place in NYC in my opinion isn't Penn Station or the subways, but the elevators going between street level and subway level. They're nothing more than public bathrooms and smell like never-cleaned old porta poddies and drugs.

Once my son leaves on his mission this summer, we’ll be empty-nesters. My choices are Houston, SLC, and now NY.
