I thought it was perfect.
I see what you are saying but he needed to go to Asgard because he’s the only one who knows Asgard on the team. It would be foreign to everyone else.
Plus... he needed that interaction with his mom TO break out of his funk.
Totally fitting story arc for the poor guy.
