If there are 2 players who have never played a D1 snap, it would be much easier for Hall to have a legit chance to win the job.
But he’s competing with a mostly proven QB who did remarkable things in actual live D1 games. In other words, Wilson played so well that he provides coaches and players and fans with immediate confidence in his abilities going into the season. He did nothing last year to give the coaches any reason to question his ability. Hall would need to show so well in practice to the point coaches are confident he’d perform even better than Wilson’s on-field performances last year. Thats hard to do in practice or spring/fall camp no matter how phenomenal he looks in practice. Fair or not, that’s what he has working against him.
Had Wilson not shown so well, it would open up the door for Hall to have a stronger chance to win the job. Even when fall camp starts, Hall’s not competing against Wilson’s day-to-day practice performances. He’s competing against Wilson’s body of work already demonstrated last year on the field and needs to prove without a doubt he’s an even better option than what we saw from Wilson last season. Not sure how you prove you can top that until the season starts and you see if Wilson continues where he left off
