As we’ve discussed before, my second-least-favorite team, by far, is Italy. Not
exactly Northern Europe. And the Netherlands and Belgium are my favorite European teams, after Spain. Last time I checked, they were in Northern Europe. So no, it isn’t a Northern European thing.
Having said this, it’s true that I don’t like England in soccer. But as I’ve posted recently, my dislike for England has diminished a lot over the last 15-20 years. It’s hard to maintain hatred for such a serial underachiever. And their fans are definitely less yewtish than they used to be, back when they thought they were the custodians of world soccer. All the defeats and disappointment over the years have worn them down, I guess.
