But I’ve been scared by losses to Utah state. When I say scared, I mean that BYU football as I know it has devolved into terrible, anonymous mediocrity.
Why?
Because Utah has been gifted. Favored. Had a few great seasons at the right time. They should be better in sports than BYU. They can honestly offer things that BYU can’t, and they can quasi manufacture an LDS experience through association, social circles, coaches and institutute. Utah should be better than BYU right now, like ASU should be.
But Utah State sucks. Mediocrity is a good season for them generally. They have no institutional, geographic, social, financial or historical advantage over BYU - yet they are starting to beat BYU in football with queasy semi-regularity.
This is where BYU has to start to rebuild. Beat the teams you should always beat. They should ALWAYS beat USU.
