If all we are doing is "competing" over recruiting rankings, then BYU is doomed. We've never had top 25 classes, nor are we likely to ever start even if we were invited to a P5 conference. So if recruiting rankings are all that matter, we have no reasonable expectation to ever finish in the top half of the NCAA. Yet, BYU has finished ranked almost half of the seasons since Lavell took over. Much of that is attributable to coaching, but much of it can be attributable to player development and evaluation.
