Dude has already been suspended for a year. So - if he then patterns of poor judgement and continues to make pad decisions - even if they don't normally rise to the level of something that would result in a year-long suspension - all of that has to be taken into account.
It's like he's on probation and needs to keep his nose clean, but chose not to. It isn't the one item that leads to the consequences - it's everything that comes with it.
And, as a coach, if you've got a kid who breaks the rules and misses a year and then comes back the following year with an attitude of disrespect towards the rules and is starting to flaunt what some may see as minor rules (which also demonstrates a level of disrespect towards the coaches and teammates who let him return) then that has to be addressed.
Bernard is a great player and I'd love to have him on the team. But not at the expense of team discipline as players look for that line they can cross and still stay on the team and get on the field of play. Losing Bernard may make the team better in the long run.
