You are right about Jimmy's and Joe's, but good to great coaching can get a lot out of average talent. While poor or over coaching can screw up good talent, which I have seen multiple times over the years at the high school level. Experience, cohesion and being on the same page matter a lot with a staff and there seems to be issues, at least to an extent in all these areas right now.
Leadership on the team matters too and this team seems devoid of that and desperately needs an identity. When players see the coaches struggling as well it doesn't help with buy in and discipline, and both areas are lacking as well. I am not saying it is all on the coaches, but this is a normal BYU team if you look back over the years and certainly capable of better than they show on the field right now. We will never have top P5 talent, but we certainly will and should always have talent that is capable of 7-10 win seasons, bowl games and better than the product we have at this stage. That's just reality and talent aside, coaching has been sub par this season so far.
