Being part of the LDS church carries both advantages and disadvantages for BYU. If they weren't part of the LDS church they'd be Westminster, a small private Utah college. Being part of the church means they have a chance at guys like Tanner McKee, who would never look at Provo otherwise. Blaming the honor code for not getting good players focuses on why BYU has it harder than the average G5 while ignoring the advantage of the LDS church that makes being BYU significantly easier than being the average G5.
