I clearly saw that. What I don't understand is his reluctance to keep the effective offense. The faster pace read option was working when he used it...
Look, I get it, nobody can speak ill of Detmer because he is Provo's favorite son. We are still in the honeymoon phase to a large degree. I understand why people will not speak ill of him.
However, if we are being honest with ourselves, we can definitely say that it was troublesome that he was so resistant to let Taysom play his game. A great OC uses what he has and builds his offense around that instead of trying to force them to be something they are not.
Like Anae or not (and other criticisms of him aside), he did a much better job of making the offense work well with the pieces he had time and time again.
Maybe Detmer has some more pieces of the puzzle this year to make his offense great. I'm optimistic about Tanner and his ability in this offense. I think we may have found the next great TE in Bushman. Hopefully the OL will be improved and someone from the WR corp will step up. And hopefully one of our promising RB's will make us miss Jamaal a little less.
I was super excited for Detmer to come here. I love the guy. I just hope he figures it out and gets our offense to score when it matters. Let's make use of 6 turnovers by the Utes next time... We only needed like 8 points to be undefeated last year.
Lucky we had the D and Jamaal last year.
