My son has had moments where he has some high anxiety...
And so we ended up getting him in to see a therapist. They walking him through his thinking patterns, and then some mental exercises that he can do, breathing techniques, and even gave him some fidget toys to take to school to help him coop with some of the problems he was having.

It helped a ton! He didn't go on any medication, it actually never really came up as a consideration. Either I or my wife would go sit with him during these meetings with the therapist.

It's probably a good start to get him seeing a therapist and kind of go from there. Just love him though, care for him, don't try to fix the issues, just listen to him and give him comfort.
