Colorado State and Air Force were the instigators of the move to...

break away from the 16 team WAC and form the MWC. BYU and Utah went along with them, but BYU was not the instigator like many in the MWC claim. The members of the 16 team WAC that were left behind, such as San Jose State, Fresno State and Tulsa were bitter towards the breakaway schools. This came from former BYU AD Val Hale.
