This is what I think he was trying to convey when he was saying this. Obviously there is a struggle of dark and light within him, and he is trying to resist the light side. That is the struggle he was talking about and he wants the struggle to go away. We assume this means he wants to throw off the dark side and come back to the light, like Han assumed, but he wanted to cut all ties from the light and fully embrace the dark. This is how Han "helped" him by killing him and continually trying to cut off his connection to his former life.
