and because he was playing the more talented underclassmen based on LaVell not leaving him much to work with. Crowton was setting the team up for a big 2006 and beyond. He was grooming players like Harline, Pitta, Collie, Beck, Kuresa, etc.
The problem was no secondary based on trying to go outside the BYU recruiting model and taking players that weren't fits. The Dline was also suspect and thin. The linebackers were lumbering, so the defense was never going to be great although he did find some nice linebacker recruits.
