I have a ton of respect for this kid. probablyeven more after reading this
article. I thought I knew alot about his story, but some of this info was completely new to me. the fact that he chose to come to BYU as the #1 QB recruit in the country wih that many offers after growing up with UW as his dream school really makes me respect him. He did what we hoped Ngata would do, what we hoped Jabari would do, what we hope Frank Jackson will do. He did that. He came to his church's school to play football when he could've gone anywhere. He hyped the program, sold his new friends on it and tried to give us all what we wanted and hoped for. I had no idea the mental and emotional struggles he was facing his freshman and sophomore years.

this article and his story reminds me of Tiger Woods. Just in the way with how big a role the mental/emotional aspect plays in athletic success. Tiger Woods had it all, was probably the best golfer we've ever seepn and he's done for good. He will never get it back in my opinion. He was so mentally zoned in and so mentally tough that he just dominated. Once the crud hot the fan so to speak and he lost that mental toughness and the mental aspect of his game he was done. It took his whole life to get to that point and I never see him regaining that mental focus and strength. Not because he doesn't want to or try to recover it, because once you lose it is near impossible to get it back.

I believe the same ting may have happened with Jake. Even at 6'1 he has all the physical tools. But somewhere along the way he lost the mental tools. Now, you can say that maybe the jump from HS to college just loses some of them and that might be true. But, without tese mental/emotional struggles would he have been different? We saw those glimpses of what might have been. They never materialized. I wonder if these real struggles he had were the cause of it or if he would've nver made it anyways. We all assumed he was too afraid or too weak minded to stand in the pocket and take a hit and still get up and be mentally/competitively fine to do it again and be successful. this makes me wonder if off the field mental/emotional/social issues are what cause many QB's or higly regarded athletes to never make it at the ir next level.
