Rose could have kept Fischer in to try to break the NCAA record for 3's. He could have kept Haws in and told them to go for the team NCAA record. They definitely could have gone for other records.
But, there's something very Ute-y about the basketball equivalent of kicking an onsides kick when you're up by 40. There's a certain amount of respectability to taking the game to the point where the outcome is certain, then letting off the gas (even letting the opponent recover some dignity by narrowing the margin a little).
