I was referring to McBride and Guy (USU). Both of their replacements
that "Always" in wrong. Whittingham doesn't work though, I agree.

Does this paragraph from the HBR article nail it about Bronco?
pittsburghcoug
11/21/14 4:15pm
Makes sense to me.
DaveLB
11/21/14 4:19pm
Not at all actually.

Who did he hire to replace the OC he fired? The same OC that was there
foofcoug
11/21/14 4:44pm
You mean the one that was really successful here before ? Yeah that's weird.
ManicBlue
11/21/14 4:50pm
Yeah, part of that same internal network.
foofcoug

You're right ... Holliday, Tujague, Beck, and Atuaia bring nothing new
ManicBlue

Your rebuttal only holds weight if those position coaches are excelling

Sorry, you're wrong again.

It's called Battered Fan Syndrome
kotacoug
11/21/14 4:18pm
etiology: stagnant coaching syndrome.
oryguncoug
11/21/14 4:23pm
It's based on years of data. Firing coaches with Bronco's record ALWAYS results

Not true. Jimbo only controlled the O, he was nowhere near a de facto HC.

John Cooper Ohio State

11/21/14 4:32pm
Cooper is actually THE best argument to my position, IMO

Adding special caveats after can literally rule out everyone
concolor couguar

Sure, but a couple of points
rcbyufan
11/21/14 5:33pm
cooper was fired
concolor couguar
11/21/14 5:40pm
I've admitted that Cooper is the best argument against my position.

off-field firing is not the same thing. I should have made that clear.
rcbyufan
11/21/14 5:04pm
Do they have to have his exact record or are you saying that firing a winning
monkeycowboy
11/21/14 4:32pm
Not exactly the same situation since Tressel would still be coaching
ManicBlue
11/21/14 4:36pm
but he was a winning coach. The other scenario would be bobby bowden at Fl state
monkeycowboy
11/21/14 4:39pm
Tressel was let go for off-field issues, not remotely for on-field
rcbyufan
11/21/14 4:46pm
also, tressel was winless in his final year
rcbyufan
11/21/14 5:17pm
Urban Meyer? Whittingham? Anderson? I havent even left the state.
DaveLB
11/21/14 4:34pm
Urban Meyer wasn't fired. Anderson wasn't fired. Try again.
ManicBlue
11/21/14 4:36pm
He did say fired so Whitt and Anderson situations dont work
concolor couguar
11/21/14 4:37pm
I was referring to McBride and Guy (USU). Both of their replacements
DaveLB
11/21/14 4:40pm
Guy was awful and doesnt fit the scenario of a record like bronco
concolor couguar
11/21/14 4:43pm
Just use Bronco's record against just decent teams then it will match
DaveLB
11/21/14 4:46pm
no it wont
concolor couguar
11/21/14 5:26pm
McBride had 2 losing seasons in last 3 years. Guy won like 5 games total

11/21/14 4:58pm
So if bronco had a losing season next year?
concolor couguar
11/21/14 5:29pm
i thought we were just going with winning percentage, you are changing the rules

Firing CEOs also results in lower performance in the short run
DrBYU
11/21/14 4:43pm
That's all I'm saying. Short term is always worse.
rcbyufan
11/21/14 5:00pm
but it is not always worse
concolor couguar
11/21/14 5:30pm
Nice made-up statistics you pulled out of the air. Here's some real stats:
Culligan Man
11/21/14 4:48pm
So, we can expect 1 fewer win if we let go of Mendenhall based on your stats.
CMuehle
11/21/14 4:58pm
Yes, let's wait until next year where we fall even further

If bronco 1.moves on or 2. resigns/retires I am okay with it. Only talking about

This article is lacking the data. My recollection is fired coaches
PJMort

This logic fails and almost proves the point you are trying to disprove
cougarfann888
11/21/14 4:57pm
Coaches moving on is totally different than firing. If Bronco resigned, it would
rcbyufan
11/21/14 5:02pm
why would it make a difference as to if we were succesful under the next coach?
cougarfann888
11/21/14 5:03pm
the job is much less attractive to potential coaches
rcbyufan
11/21/14 5:21pm
We will have to disagree on cause and affect. If saban got fired this year it

All I'm saying is the data says if you fire an 8 win coach for on-field issues
rcbyufan

so if we lose to cal and the bowl game will you jump on the #firebronco team
cougarfann888

Maybe. Look, BYU may be an outlier (because our coaching pool is different from
