I see some on here thinking VCU deserved to be a 9 seed. I think that is preposterous. I mean their metrics are solid, but they are against some pretty bad teams. They are 2-1 in quad 1 games and 6-4 in quad 2 games. BYU is 6-2 in quad 2 and both of those losses happened a long time ago (TCU is most recent and they are 3 in the rankings below what would qualify for Q1.
In Q1 and Q2 games VCU fared this way:
N Loss 61-64 to Nevada (71)
N Win 76-68 to CSU (47) (CSU had not yet found their form after losing by 17 to CU they fell to 5-5)
A Loss 71-78 to New Mexico (42) New Mexico is a 10 seed
A Loss 75-77 to St Bonaventure (97)
A Win 84-65 to Loyola Chicago (107)
A Win 78-69 to St Josephs (76)
A Loss 69-78 to St Louis (101)
A Win 79-76 to Dayton (67)
A Win 80-72 to George Washington (124)
