As you may have guessed, there is a big emphasis on violence and the harshness of the American west.

In episode 1 a mormon militia (called the Nauvoo Legion, I need to look that up, did we still call militias the Nauvoo Legion in the 1850s?) attacks a mostly peaceful wagon party (ala MMM) because they were trespassing on Mormon land and needed a permit (that didn't seem really plausible ... but whatever). there was a mormon family in the wagon party the husband and wife are separated and appears they will be major characters going forward.

The main plot though revolves around a wife traveling with her son. She is wanted for murder back east. She is able to escape the mormon militia attack and meets up with a Mr. Reed who was raised by Indians who basically saves her. Episode 2 ends with Mr. Reed's tribe rescuing them as they are on the run being tracked by bad-guy-mormon-militia-man and another group of bounty hunders from Fort Bridger.

The main bad guy so far is the head of the mormon militia who unfortunately isn't an interesting villian, he is just an annoying butthead (and just as bad doesn't seem to be that great of an actor).

We got a quick depiction of Brigham Young who unfortunately is seen as hypocritical overtly-religious-crony-leader who cares more about not being seen as the one behind the militia attack than being an industrious leader).

...whatevs, I'll probably keep watching to see where this goes.

Really good action scenes, some really beautiful views of the American west...that is about it for now.
