BYU is going to have their best interior DL in years next season and it's going to unlock Jay Hill's defense even further. A breakdown of the killer T's:
Keanu Tanuvasa - 6'4/301, RS JR... appeared in 24 games at Utah in his young career with 19 starts. Disruptive force up the middle already has 50 career tackles, 12 TFL, 4 sacks, 5 PD's. He has the potential to be an All-Big 12 1st teamer as an upper classmen.
John Taumopeau - 6'2/285, RS SR... JT was an outstanding DL at Snow, where in 2022 he recorded 39 tackles, 11.5 TFL and 7.5 sacks in just 9 games. He quietly came into his own for BYU in 2024, playing in 12 games and registering 12 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 1.0 sack. I believe he has the capability to add a little more weight to his frame and have a breakout year with more playing time.
Luke To'omalatai - 6'2/315, SR... Luke came to BYU as a Rivals JUCO All-American. He was a dominant nose tackle at Long Beach CC in 2023, registering 12.5 TFL and 8.5 sacks in just 9 games! He got his feet wet in 2024 at the P4 level, appearing in 8 games with 11 tackles and 0.5 TFL. I'm telling you, this young man has a unique combo of size and quick burst. He has a very high ceiling and the capability to break out in a big way in 2025.
Other DT's:
Anisi Purcell, 6'3/266, JR... the 2-year starter at SUU is going to beef up to 280+ and play a key role in adding depth to the interior DL.
Joshua Singh, 6'0/285, RS SR... enters his 5th year in the program and has appeared in 27 career games with 14 tackles and 2.5 TFL. He will add good experience/depth as a senior.
HOT TAKE: The Killer T's are going to form one of the best interior DL groups in the Big 12 in 2025. Tanuvasa is going to explode in Jay Hill's system and I really believe in the breakout potential of Taumopeau and To'omalatai as upper classmen. Those dudes have talent.
