My wife and I are going to NYC for the first time ever. We will be there for just two days, and want a hotel that is situated well to see the main sites (Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Museum, Brooklyn Bridge, etc).

Can I just book any hotel and easily make it work? Is transportation easy enough to get anywhere we want pretty easily? I don't plan on having a car while in NYC; I was thinking of getting that rental on the day we leave he city and go to other places on our trip.
