Interesting - The new PIE adblocker is basically just stealing others money.
Interesting - The new PIE adblocker is basically just stealing others money.

So I saw a bunch of "PIE" ad blocker commercials on Youtube recently. . . and it seemed sketch that they would block ads, and yet had money to pay for Millions fo dollars in Youtube/Spotify/Apple Podcast ads. I was curious how does a company get so much money for a free service. I was especially curious when I saw the ad say it was the same creator as "Honey" which always seemed sketch.

Turns out that they will block some ads, but most of the time they will just switch other's ads from playing on Youtube or showing up on a google search.
So basically they collect all the Advertisement revenue for a service someone else provides.

Similar to how Honey apparently would steal the affiliate link sales from their "Promo code" business. For those (like me yesterday) who didn't know. There is a Chrome extension called Honey that provided "Free Promo codes". But they didn't always use the best promo code, They would steal affiliate link sales from the site that actually sent you to the website. . . Basically stealing money from content creators who did all the advertising, and then stole the "Sale" credit at the last second.
