The situation ZW was in with the Jets couldn't have been worse.
- No Vet in Year 1 - No veteran QB in the room who could help him. Just other young guys. (Ryan Clark was going off about how Caleb Williams has this same situation in Chicago, no veteran guy in the locker room. Compare that to Mahomes who had Alex Smith, Josh Allen who had Derek Anderson who had started in the playoffs, etc. etc. Or even Bryce Young with Andy Dalton. High rookie draft picks need/should have a veteran behind them.

- QB Coach Dies - The QB coach that they hired to literally mold ZW, the guy Steve Young recommended to ZW's dad and the guy that made the Wilson's comfortable with Zach going to the NYJ...dies a month before the season in a bicycling accident. Knapp was hired to help Zach. That was his only job. He died in late July, 2 weeks before the first preseason game.

- First Time OC and HC - This wasn't Andy Reid or Sean Peyton or even Dan Quinn or Kliff Kingsbury. This was first time HC Saleh and first time OC little bro LaFleur. He had been passing game coordinator for the 49ers prior. He had never called one offensive play. This led to Saleh badly mismanaging him in his second year, not having a vet behind him in YEar 1, not having a vet that consistently traveled with the team in Year 2 (they had Flacco but he often didn't travel with the team), and then not having a vet backup of Rodgers in Year 3.

- Jets - We can see now how deeply dysfunctional the entire organization is.

- NY Market - I kind of think that despite ALL of the above, IF Zach had been in Jacksonville or Carolina or even a place like Atlanta or Minnesota, he still has a chance at succeeding. But when you have Jets fan Greeny, Rich Eisen, Rex Ryan and others just hammering him day after day after day. Him leading First Take day after day after day...it was too much pressure.

- Playing Belichick twice a year - Belichick has some unholy record against young QBs. The Pats game in each of the first two seasons were the games that broke him.

Combine all of that...and you almost couldn't have had a worse situation for a young QB if you tried to create one. Like if you set out and said 'what's the worst possible situation we could put a young QB in?' the Jets did that.
