TIL that Jack Lord (Steve McGarrett Hawaii 5-0) was originally offered the role
of Captain James T. Kirk on Star Trek. He wanted 50% of the show so Gene Roddenberry went next to William Shatner and the rest is history. Lord as Captain Kirk would have been interesting but Shatner and the role became inseparable.
