Something I could see KWhitt doing...is leaving before next season.
KW's family are "friends of friends" of mine so I've heard stories about how he's actually a really decent person within his family life (good husband, good father, observant member of the church, etc.). Granted, I heard these things a few years ago and people can change, but I haven't seen anything from him to cause me to believe he is anything other than a good family man.

With that said (wink wink), the same person touting his laurels admitted that his one big flaw is that he is just a really immature dude. It occurred to me after hearing this that KWs less than stellar maturity level is probably part of why he was such a great recruiter and motivator. He truly understands the juvenile psyche because, in general, he is operating with one. I realized that he isn't feigning having a chip on his shoulder as some type of "locker room whisperer" technique, he really does have a chip on his shoulder about a lot of dumb things. For example, see the way he held it against BYU for not saving a spot for his Dad on staff after his father left on his own accord OR see the Wyoming on-side kick fiasco OR see how much he hated Bronco Mendenhall for citing scripture OR see how he recently pretended the BYU rivalry doesn't matter to him because of a supposedly imminent P2 invite.

To be clear, it did not help that his AD was Dr. Hill, a complete tool, followed by Mark Harlan, whose antics need no explanation here, but KW's been very comfortable under the leadership of those two for decades, which I think kind of confirms what I had heard.

Given his personality, I do not see KW being a guy who wants whoever follows him to be very successful, even if it ends up being a former player, longtime friend, and current colleague like Scalley. I think KW would prefer to walk away and see the team struggle for a while and I don't think he would mind if the program never reached the same level of success as it has enjoyed under him. So it would be somewhat "on brand" for KW to hang it up before next season after the team has been pillaged through the transfer portal. His competitive juices may bring him back for a shot at redemption, but whether he leaves now or in a few years, I do not think the program will be in very good shape for the next guy.
