going down to 105, and that the scholarships are increasing to 105 as well. From what I understand, b12 will be allowed to use all 105 scholarships. That has lead some, me as well, to say that walk on really won’t be a thing anymore.
Now b12 also has a role that guarantees a scholarship for 4 years. Now byu coaches can encourage players to look for other opportunities, or point out that they will be buried on the depth chart, but they can’t just take scholarships away. I’m sure there are ways around it, that I’m not in a position to fully understand.
I’m wondering if they still use the walk on position as a chance to give some dining in the rough types a few years to prove themselves and earn a scholarship. They can also use NIL to help pay for the tuition at the same time while not essentially guaranteeing their roster spot for 4 years.
