Why not wait to open the portal until January? Let everyone play their bowl games and sure, the playoff teams will still have to focus on preparing for their games but at least their games mean something.

Bowl games are already struggling to stay relevant because of the playoff, the least we could do is incentivize players to finish out the season with their teams.

I recognize players are already hopping in the portal on social media before the official portal opens, but as long as coaches can’t recruit portal players until a certain date, that would help a lot.

This is an easy fix for the NCAA. Just do it!
