Anytime my boss starts discussing pending changes he starts to overuse the word “exciting”. The usage becomes excessive
and is clearly being laid on thick which always alerts my senses.

I understand and appreciate that higher level leaders make changes that in my experience don’t always make sense and are frankly just bad decisions — but we just have to roll with the punches either way. I’m fine with that part, but don’t try to convert me to your fake optimism when I’ve done the math and the changes will not only not be for the better but will undoubtedly get us heading in the wrong direction.

If I’m in leadership I would explain the changes in a matter of fact way, mention that I’m uncertain of the implications but remain hopeful for the best.

If a manager carelessly tosses around how “excited” he is over and over when there isn’t an objective reason to be excited — it merely reveals a lack of sincerity and thus calls into question even more things.
