We played quite well for most of the game. Showed a few strengths and weaknesses, the latter of which needs some attention.
Hall, Richie and particularly Baker struggled big time to keep their guards from penetrating. That, more than anything else, cost us the game. Don't get me wrong, their guards played extremely well but we need to find an answer for this a number of guards in the conference play like this. Would have loved to see if Steward could have stayed with Murray, but his offense play may not allow for that. Regardless, slowing down a guy like him is imperative and the staff needs to find an answer.
Denim got better as he acclimated to the game. He'll be just fine and get better each game, including 3 point shooting. Boskovic can play and will also be important down the road. Catchings started hot but his youth showed thru later on. Needs to stay in control and work harder on both ends as the game progresses, but he does have talent. Hall appeared very hesitant and lacked the will to penetrate. Likely due to time off, so this should fix itself throughout December. Traore is a beast and I think if they showed the last play of regulation time in slow-mo we would see several reach in fouls on that play. The refs swallowed their whistles on that play as well as the prior obvious travel, which has to be called. Likely changed the outcome of the game on that one. At any rate, Traore deserves every minute he gets and then some, even more so in that he is dead on with free throws.
Games like this will pay dividends later on. Would love to see us win them in the next few weeks, but either way, we'll be a better team going forward for having them. Let's see how we do against North Carolina State tomorrow and then Providence next week. Would not be surprised to see an uptick in our play.
