Paging all CB doctors (or any fans of House, MD)
I have a medical mystery I hope someone can shed some light on.
3 weeks ago, my 16 yo daughter developed periorbital edema. It came on very gradually. We started her on Benadryl, Pepcid, and Zyrtec. It started to look better but 2 days later it got worse. Went to the ER and they gave her a 5 day course of prednisone. Once again, the next day looked a little better but then got markedly more swollen (no redness, tenderness, or itchiness). Back to the ER. They ran blood cultures, and tested for strep, mycoplasma all which came back negative. CBC and TSH also normal. She was also given azithromycin (while waiting for mycoplasma and blood cultures to come back) to help with any infection. Followed up with PCP who ordered CRP (high), ESR (normal), C3 (high), C4 (high), C1 inhib (normal), IgE (normal). She is seeing an allergist next week.
This all happened with no changes to diet, makeup, soaps, or any other environmental elements we can think of. So far it has only affected her eyes and some days it is hardly noticeable and other days it looks like she’s having angioedema (only the eyes though.) She was on accutane and low dose estrogen which she has since stopped taking as to rule out medication being the cause.
Thoughts? Suggestions? I’m happy to BM if you have additional questions. Thanks

(Oh, and yes, we have ruled out feline AIDS)
