I knew as soon as the QB threw the ball with 4 seconds left that there would be time left. No way he threw a 4+ second hangtime ball. The clock operator should have had his finger on the button.
And the officials should have thrown the flag for intentional grounding as soon as they saw it heading out of bounds.
Time on the clock and/or a flag on the field would have been enough to prevent most of the storming. Even if they had to pick up the flag and declare the game over after review, that would have been preferable to what happened.
And Dillingham should have been helping get the fans off the field rather than yelling at the refs, making the fans feel justified to stay. I respect Skattebo as I saw him trying to help usher the fans once the decision was made. He knows the game isn't over until it's over.
