I'm less worried now than I used to be in regards to replacing football coaches.
With the talk of Hill potentially getting poached, or the (from my perspective) minority view that A-Rod should be gone, I've been thinking of how we would handle that. That being said, hopefully if a coach leaves it's because they accepted an offer for a better situation (personally or professionally) rather than because we let them go and they end up nowhere.

In the past, replacing coaches was worrisome because 1) BYU didn't pay as well other programs and 2) we have the religious restrictions (similar to the honor code; coaches need to be aligned with the university and by extension the church, and in some cases needs to be a member). The question was always "who will BYU hire to replace him?, followed by a short list of candidates that either seemed out of reach or not a clear upgrade from the departing coach. However, with BYU joining the Big 12, the financial aspect is improving significantly. Look at the basketball situation: we asked the same thing when Pope left and we were pleasantly surprised when one of those out-of-reach candidates was hired. BYU is stepping up its hires, now that they are in a position to pay more.

I think BYU will be in a better position to get some of those previously out-of-reach coaches for football now that BYU is getting a full-share of revenue starting next year. It's nice to see BYU start to tap into its potential, at least a little.
