Last week, leading up to Saturday I thought the excitement for the game on ASU’s part was for the opportunity of a conf championship this season. BYU was just the next opponent in line.
Since the game I’ve realized that even though the majority of the fanbase can’t spell BYU - they decided to use their passion on hate for us rather than just cheering for their Sun Devils…something the entire fan base has struggled to do passionately for 20-30 years, with few exceptions. Maybe they just didn’t like seeing almost half their stadium in blue - honestly, it wouldn’t sit well with me either.
This happens to us frequently and I think it has to be for reasons unrelated to football, sports, schools. I don’t get it - Saturday had a Sun Devil flashing porn on their phone to a young fan in front of his father, dropping f bombs directed to Y fans to the point of numbness. I dropped some myself in my living room on Saturday - don’t care how people talk - I do care when they direct it at me just for being there.
Not much can be done - any attempts to have institutions fix it will only make it worse. It is what it is - I just hope other fans occasionally realize how bad of a look it is as they sit by and watch way too many of their fans act like complete clowns.
The best response is “scoreboard” and unfortunately, we didn’t have that after spotting them 21 points. I have thoughts on that as well from a coaching perspective but best for another discussion. Loved Batty’s halftime speech and the way they fought back. If we are lucky enough to get a rematch - they don’t stand a chance! Go Cougs!
