Two losses after a 9-0 start. It sucks. I get it.
The KU ending was nearly parallel to where we were sitting, and the whole play unfolded right in front of us. I felt the same disappointment yesterday as everyone else as Jake misfired at the end, and a comeback for the ages disappeared, then disappeared again 2 yards short of the goal line.

Both of those were rough.

OTOH, the final Okie State TD also happened directly in my line of sight at LES, as did the game sealing INT at Baylor. We hung on to give SMU their only loss, and we did that on the road. We've beaten Utah the last two now and did so in a way that may have actually killed their AD--now a walking meat puppet possessed by the collective spirit of Ute dumbyewtery.

It hurt about as much as a fan can be hurt to lose those last two, sure. Does it mean the team has quit, folded, choked, or mailed it in? If you're a yes on this, why? Picked 13th in our league to start the season, we'd gone 4/4 in 1-score games to reach 9-0 before losing games in which we were a 3.5 point favorite and a 3.5 point underdog. Both times, we were in position to win and came incredibly close to doing so.

This squad had overachieved, beaten the odds, played an exciting but far-from-perfect brand of football, and battled all year. Hurts to see an outright conference title, and perhaps any shot at the title, slip away at the end. But we'd defied expectations dramatically to even be in that position.

Beat Houston at home, and BYU is either in the conference championship or a bowl game with a chance to finish 11-2 and ranked vs. a more difficult schedule than any 2-loss squad in our history has conquered. I'll take it and hope to see it play out this Saturday.
