I’m not telling anyone anything new that his teams have been emotional and ride both winning and losing streaks.
In 2016, our first loss turned into 3 straight losses and was our only losing streak of an otherwise good season.
In 2017, our first loss to LSU spiraled into a 7-game losing streak before we closed our final five 3-2.
In 2018, getting destroyed by Washington as a ranked team turned into losing 4 of 5 including a terrible home loss to NIU.
In 2019, another deflating loss to Washington was the first of a 3-game losing streak, two of which were to Toledo and South Florida.
2020 - Only year we’ve avoided a losing streak.
2021 - Lost our first game to Baylor and followed it up with our worst game of the season at home against Boise State.
2022 - A lopsided loss to Oregon turned into locker room issues on defense and losing 5 of 7 while getting blown out by Liberty.
2023 - A blowout road loss to TCU spiraled into losing 6 of 7 including 5 straight losses to end the year.
Until Kalani shows otherwise, I don’t expect us to have a strong rebound after a deflating loss. Past performance unfortunately indicates that we likely will have another letdown game against ASU. This has admittedly been a season of trend-breaking, however, so I’m hopeful we will this trend changed as well.
Go Cougs!
