Brandoblueblood Intervention Needed
Good Sportsmanship Rule 1A: Accepting Defeat. Ute Score: F-

Does someone need to take a page from every elementary school PE handbook on good sportsmanship?

This from a Google search on a mature way to react after a loss:

Key points to remember:

Acknowledge the loss: Don't try to minimize or deny the defeat; accept that you lost and move on.
Harlan: "This game was absolutely stolen from us...We won this game. Someone else stole it from us."
Whittingham:  Plays coy like he's "trying" to be a good sport in spite of incredible odds, then slamming a chairNo acceptance from any ute admin on the loss.
Ute Fanbase:  Alone in blaming the refs, agreeing with Harlan, nobody cringing.  Coming up with excuses ("Rose was playing with a broken leg!")

Grade: F

Congratulate the opponent: Be sincere in acknowledging the other team's skills and effort.
Harlan, tWhittingham et al:  Crickets on BYU's performance.  See above
Ute Fanbase:  Coming up with every reason on why BYU didn't actually win.  See above

Grade:  F

Avoid blaming others: Take responsibility for your own performance and don't make excuses for why you lost.
Harlan:  Jumping on the field during a live play to blame the ref, telling a ref this is why he was fired after, plus the comments above
Whittingham:  Immediately points finger in ref's face to blame him after the loss
Ute fanbase:  See above

Grade:  F

Stay positive: Focus on the positive aspects of the game, like personal improvements or good plays by your team.
Not a single bit of positivity or introspection done by anyone in admin or fanbase.

Grade:  F

Learn from the experience: Analyze what went wrong and use it as an opportunity to improve for next time.
Crickets on their own shortcomings.  Not any bit of acknowledgement that they suck in any way, except that they have injuries (maybe)

Grade:  F

Maintain composure: Control your emotions and avoid displaying frustration or anger.
Harlan:  Trespasses in anger at a ref on the field during a live play, potentially costing his own team the victory.  Then puts a finger at the ref's face after the game and tells him this is why he was fired.  In an unprecedented move, butts into the press conference to tell everyone why they actually won and the game was stolen.  When fined for his poor sportsmanship, refuses to apologize.
Whittingham: Also puts a finger in the ref's face and cusses him out AFTER the game.  Slams a chair down in the postgame comments.  Hints later that he's frustrated at the fairness of the game but pretends to be the bigger man in bottling up that frustration.
Ute fanbase:  Throws things on the field, assault the other team, stay mum when they should be calling for an apology and apologizing themselves

Grade:  F

Show respect: Treat your opponents with courtesy and respect, even in defeat.
Never a "good game" from anyone in admin or in the stands.  Lots of pining for an invite to a different conference.  3 Angry Utes in the Basement making fun of the team that just beat them

Grade:  F
