For those who aren't already familiar with the Eckel rate, it basically shows how often you have an explosive or big play.
BYU ranks 11th in the country on offense
Kansas ranks 111th on defense
Here is where it gets interesting:
A writer for the Athletic pointed out in September that SEC games up to that point where the team wins the explosive play margin the win loss record was 32-2.
Between 2019 and 2023 SEC teams with the better Eckle rate had an overall record of
397-72.
When the ratio difference was +10 or more, the record was 52-2
BYU's Eckel ratio is 60.2%
Kansas is 47.7%
We are + 12.5
This is huge.
