Luck of the cougars. Or...
How many plays would you say were determined by BYU just getting plain dumb luck going there way.

I know it looks like a lot, but if you dig into it, I think there's a lot more preparation that sets those plays up. I don't think BYU is quite as lucky as people think they are. Pick any play that looks lucky, and I'll bet you can find a narrative from a coach or player interview this year that explains why it wasn't as lucky as it seemed.

Now to be fair, there's an overthrow-and-a-catch play (was it SIU?) where neither Jake nor A-rod will fess up, but Chase broke on a ball and made a catch, so yeah maybe luck there, but a lot of skill by Chase or else it didn't matter.

Here's my offering: Parker's Punt Return to the house.

Lots of luck seemed apparent on that play. I'll give you the bounce was lucky, but he still had to have skill to field it. The KSU stumblebum tackles looked silly and unlucky, but you can attribute that to Parker's speed.

The big thing though, was Kpop putting in first string defenders in a blocking scheme THEY PRACTICED, saying they thought they could RUN ONE BACK. Coach anticipated it. So in the end, it wasn't luck, it was preparation (at least the to-the-house part).

How many lucky plays were actually only luck?
