On offense, Kansas is very similar to BYU. Daniels is very comparable to Retzlaff from a passing standpoint. Retzlaff actually has better passing numbers than Daniels in most metrics, but it's not a huge difference. Daniels has better rushing numbers, but Retzlaff is a sneaky effective running QB. Daniels isn't that much better in the run game than him. BYU overall is a better passing team than Kansas (not a huge gap though). Kansas overall is a better rushing team than BYU, again, not by a huge gap. And that gap would be even smaller if we didn't have our RB1 and RB2 injured for a third of the season. So offensively, the teams are relatively equal.

Our rushing defenses numbers are also nearly identical, but there is a big gap in total defense and passing defensive. Kansas is 89th in passing defense, while we're #21. The gap in total defense is also pretty similar.

Basically we have very similar offenses, but we will be playing against a much weaker defense than Kansas will be, especially if we lean into the passing game.

There are also some pretty big differences in special teams performance. Kansas in 122th in the country in kickoff return production. BYU is 5th. Kansas is 128th in punt return coverage and are prone to give up big plays covering punt returns. Their kicker has only attempted 9 field goals this year at hits about 75% of them (Ferrin is at 85%). Our kicking game and kick coverage is significantly better than Kansas.

What that tells me is that if we play sound, fundamental, football on both sides of the ball, we'll make some plays on special teams and defense that swing the game in our direction.
