How to even compare seasons , games, and margin of victory and think that one team is terrible or not is such a stupid take. BYU is winning, winning against solid competition and having a great year. To say otherwise is dumb. All it ever comes down to is the AP rank, perception, bias, etc and the logo on the helmet.
I quickly looked at the last 11 National champions and how those teams did in their "special year". Why 11? I don't know, just went back to FSU 🙂
BYU currently has 4 close wins or wins by only one score.
Here are the teams, and the number of close games (one score games) they had and losses if they had any.
2023 - Michigan had 3 w/no losses
2022 - Georgia had 1 w/no losses
2021 - Georgia had 1 w/no losses
2020 - Alabama had 0 w/no losses
2019 - LSU had 3 w/no losses
2018 - Clemson had 2 w/no losses
2017 - Alabama had 2 w/one (1) loss
2016 - Clemson had 6 w/one (1) loss
2015 - Alabama had 1 w/one (1) loss
2014 - Ohio St had 2 w/one (1) loss
2013 - FSU had 0 w/no losses
It looks like the mighty Michigan, LSU and Clemson had 3 close wins and went on to win it all. In 2016 Clemson must have been terrible because they had 6 and lost a game. What does this mean? Nothing really, just that it is dumb to discredit BYU's year by the number of "close wins" .
