An observation from the cheap seats… how the tables have turned
As I was reading the news this morning I saw the story of the coach getting hit with the bottle everywhere. Many national outlets are spreading the story now that the kid who threw the bottle has been caught and arrested. Not a good look for UofU

As hard as it is to admit, I think Utah played their cards very well when they got the invite to the P12. They were able to effectively create separation between themselves and BYU. Things like cancelling the rivalry games and the whole coach K and Nick Emery debacle added to the separation. To their credit they eventually began to dominate on the field, especially in football.

All that translated to the rise in recruiting that followed. By almost any measure, the tide had turned. I would say that separation also helped them get more love from voters who determine preseason and in season rankings.

As a BYU fan it was hard to watch and accept that they were on the rise and we were stuck in independence.

Fast Forward to last Saturday night…

It’s hard to imagine a school could play their hand worse than Utah has since the P12 imploded. All the shine they had at the peak of their P12 success has vanished.

They are easily the most despised school in the B12. Every news story about Utah right now is about a fan getting arrested for assault, their AD getting fined for bad behavior, their regret at joining the B12, their head coach losing control of their locker room and uncertainty regarding his future as head coach.

On top of all that their marquee program is losing spectacularly after predicting they would run the conference. Adding insult to injury the program they tried to crush is now a top 10 team and on the cusp of getting into the CFB playoffs. Recruiting at BYU seems to be on an upswing and we beat their marquee team in dramatic fashion on national TV.

Things are now almost 180 degrees from where they were just a few years ago. What a spectacular collapse! Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch and best of all, they did it all by themselves.

Too early to say places have been switched permanently but the tides have clearly turned again and watching Utah fail spectacularly has added to the joy of many cougar faithful this year.

Good times for BYU and the cougar faithful!

Most of the struggles this year relate directly to Whittingham's blindspots/weaknesses as a coach (jvr7, Nov 13, 2024 at 11:31am)
