tires that don't match the rear right? The rear have plenty of tread left and are in good shape but I want 3 peak rated to go on the front of my wife's car for winter.

New tires should always be in the rear. Move the rear to the front if you want to keep them.

I get the reasons they do it, but then the older tires with less tread and non snow rated are in the front, oh well
