to blame the refs.
On the night, the most egregiously wrong call that directly led to points was the face mask that wasn't. That was a 25 yard plus automatic first down penalty that directly led to 7 pts for Utah.
For every single ticky tack holding penalty called on Utah, I can point to something similar called on BYU. Those were a wash.
Every single objective observer nationwide has confirmed that "The Hold" was a legit call. You can whine and cry and wish it hadn't been seen, but your man held. It wasn't standard hand fighting that goes on every single play. It was a legit hold and tug that both altered JoJo's route and helped Vaughn get back into position.
BYU was flagged for a phantom offense that led to 7 Utah points with a net change of 25 yards in field position that put Utah well inside BYU territory.
Utah was flagged for a legitimate offense that led to 3 BYU points with a net change of 18 yards in field position that put BYU at their own 19 yard line.
Just own it. Your boys lost. I'd stick with calling it fair and square, but if you really want to get technical than it would be appropriate to state that BYU won despite Utah being the beneficiary of an egregiously bad call.
