If they continue to win their next three games—including a road win over a potentially ranked Arizona State—they’d probably be ranked #5 or #6 heading into the CCG.
At that point, they’d probably be playing a ranked Big XII team for the title. If what the committee says is true (that they won’t punish teams for participating in a CCG), then I think it’d be pretty controversial to knock the Cougars back 6 or 7 spots behind teams that didn’t participate in their CCGs.
I suppose if the Cougs got routed by 35-plus points or something, then I could see them justify dropping us out of the playoff field. But I gotta think that in this scenario BYU stays in the bracket.
Maybe I’m blue goggles or maybe I trust the selection committee too much.
