First of all congratulations on the win from a die hard Utah fan. My thoughts on the controversial call are that yes there was a grab, but not much more than there is somewhere on the field on nearly every single snap. But that is not why we lost the game. Your defense shut us out in the second half and you cannot expect to win if you cannot score for an entire half. I think most Utah fans knew that Whitt was going to play conservative after Rose threw that interception and BYU's coaches knew it too. It is unfortunate that Whitt doesn't put the amount of trust in his offense that he does in his defense, but it just is who he is and it is not going to change. I am still proud of my team, if you had told me we lose the turnover battle by two and did not score a point in the second half I would have assumed it was a blowout.
The main reason I came here was to share my thoughts on the fan interactions during and after the game since I know BYU fans love nothing more than to hear how awful we treat your fans. During the game there were several BYU fans near me and there was not much to report other than all fans cheering for and supporting their team. After the game was a different story. I have seen the story of the water bottle being thrown at a BYU cheerleader and that is unacceptable and I hope they find who threw it and cancel their season tickets. In the concourse and walking back to my car I saw mostly people acting how adults should behave with a few exceptions. There were several BYU fans who were clearly intent on getting Utah fans riled up and catching it on camera. I am sure they just couldn't wait to get home and share what they got on Twitter and Cougarboard. There is nothing wrong with celebrating when you are excited, but just like when players score a touchdown their is a line between celebrating with your teammates and taunting. And these folks were clearly intent on taunting and fishing for a reaction they could share on social media. I saw them getting in Utah fans faces in an extremely crowded concourse and screaming "what happened?" and reminding Utah fans what our records is so far this season. That part did not bother me as I realize it is just part of being a fan, but the fact they had their phones on while doing it is what made me think they were really hoping to get a reaction and of course they dot what they wanted from some Utah fans. Just something to keep in mind as you all scour the internet this morning looking for examples to prove everything you already believe.
Again congrats. You deserved the win, and I am glad the rivalry is back on an annual basis and I will be in Provo next year.
